Renowned as being the 'world's oldest railway' the Tanfield Railway was originally built in 1725, and was a revelation at the time. Today, it is a tremendous tourist attraction to those visiting the North East of England. Travelling to Ambleside along this railway line, you board one of many steam-hauled locomotives that have been lovingly restored for today's generations.
